Learn how to use your Poly Edge E phone to quickly and efficiently handle incoming calls.

Place a Call
Whenever you are ready to, you can place outbound calls to your contacts. There are several ways that a call can be initiated.
Use the Dialer
The Dialer allows you to dial a phone number or extension number to call. It also displays a list of previously placed calls or contacts in your directory.
To use this screen to place a call…
- Press the Speakerphone button, Headset button, or the New Call softkey.
- Do one of the following:
- Dial the extension or phone number to call and press the Send softkey.
- Use the Up or Down navigational buttons to select a recent caller.
- Press the Directories softkey, select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites), and press Dial softkey.
You can also initiate a call on the dialer by…
- Dial the extension or phone number.
- Do one of the following:
- Press the Dial softkey.
- Pick up the handset.
- Press the Speakerphone button.
- Press the Headset button.
Use a BLF or Speed Dial Key
If you have BLF and speed dial keys configured on your Poly Edge E phone, you can use these keys to quickly place calls.
To initiate a call using one of these keys, simply press the BLF or speed dial key of the person you wish to contact.
View a User's Status on a BLF Key
Before you place a call using a BLF, you can view that user's status by referencing the icon indicators.

Call a Contact
You can easily contact the people you have a contact created for in your Directories.
To dial a contact from a Directory…
- Press the Directories softkey.
- Select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites).
- Use the Up or Down navigational buttons to hover over a specific contact.
- Press the Dial softkey.
Dial a Recent Caller
Since your Poly Edge E phone keeps a record of your calls, you can easily call a person you have spoken to in the past.
To do so…
- Press the Recent Calls softkey.
- Use the Up or Down navigational buttons to hover over a recent call.
- Press the Dial softkey.
Place Multiple Calls
While you are in an active call, you can place your current caller on hold and place a new call.
During an active call, do one of the following:
- Put the caller on Hold, press the New Call softkey, and dial the other person to contact.
- Select More → Lines, press a different line appearance key, and dial the other person to contact.
- Select More → Lines and press the BLF or speed dial of a person.
- Put a caller on Hold, press the Home button, navigate to 4 Directories, select a specific directory and a contact, and press the Dial softkey.
- Put a caller on Hold, press the Home button, navigate to 5 Recent Calls, select a specific call, and press the Dial softkey.
If you would not like this phone to allow additional calls to ring, Call Waiting can be disabled.
Answer a Call
When you have an incoming call, your Poly Edge E phone will give you options for responding to the call.
To answer a call, do one of the following:
- Press the Answer softkey.
- Pick up the handset.
- Press the Speakerphone button.
- Press the Headset button.
Ignore or Reject a Call
If you are unavailable to take a call, you have several different ways of rejecting a call.
Ignore a Call
You can silence an incoming call to stop your phone from ringing.
To silence, or ignore, an incoming call, press the Ignore softkey.
✔ When a call is silenced, the incoming call notification will continue to be displayed on the phone's screen.
Manually Reject a Call
When you are receiving an incoming call that you cannot take, you can reject the call.
To reject an incoming call, press the Reject softkey.
✔ The rejected call will be shown in the Received Calls list in the phone's Recent Calls.
Automatically Reject a Call from a Contact
- Press the Directory softkey.
- Select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites).
- Do one of the following:
- For a new contact, press the Add softkey and fill out the contact's information.
- For an existing contact, use the Up or Down navigational keys to find the contact, press Information → Edit.
- Turn on Auto Reject.
- Press the Save softkey.
✔ All calls from this contact will be automatically rejected until Auto Reject is turned off for their contact.
Forward a Call
While a call is ringing, you can manually forward the call to another person.
To forward a ringing call…
- While the phone is ringing, press the Forward softkey.
- Enter the extension number or phone number that the call should be forwarded to.
- Press the Forward softkey again.
Divert a Call from a Contact to Another Person
If needed, you can divert all incoming calls from a particular contact to another contact.
- Press the Directory softkey.
- Select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites).
- Do one of the following:
- For a new contact, press the Add softkey and fill out the contact's information.
- For an existing contact, use the Up or Down navigational keys to find the contact, press Information → Edit.
- Find the Divert Contact field and type the extension or phone number that calls from this contact should be diverted to.
- Turn on Auto Divert.
- Press the Save softkey.
✔ All calls from this contact will be diverted or forwarded to the phone number in the Divert Contact field.
Disable Call Waiting
If the call waiting feature is disabled, the phone will automatically reject incoming calls when you are on an active call. This can be handy when you know that you should only handle one call at a time.
To disable the Call Waiting feature…
- Press the Home button.
- Navigate to 10 Settings → 1 Basic → 1 Preferences → 9 Call Waiting.
- Select Disabled.
✔ Now calls that you receive while you are on an active call will be either sent to your voicemailbox or forwarded by a Busy Forward.
Active Call Features
Using your Ply Edge E phone, you can easily handle calls coming in using several different features.
Mute Yourself
If you need to step away from the phone, you can mute your phone's microphone.
- To mute your microphone while on a call, press the Mute button.
- To unmute yourself, press the Mute button again.
Hold and Resume a Call
Whenever you need to, you can pause a call by putting the call on hold. While a call is on hold, your caller will hear your organization's music on hold.
- To hold an active call, press the Hold softkey or the Hold button.
- To resume a call on hold, press the Resume softkey or press the Hold button again.
Transfer a Call
While you are handling a call, you may find it necessary to send your caller to a different destination.
There are four different ways you can transfer calls to users:
- Blind Transferring
- Semi-Attended Transferring
- Consultative Transferring
- Transferring to Voicemail (for internal users)
Perform a Blind Transfer
If you need to transfer call to someone else, you have the option to send the call straight to that other person without speaking to them using a blind transfer.
To perform a blind, or cold, transfer…
- Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
- Select More → Blind Transfer.
- If needed, press More → Consultative to switch back to a consultative transfer.
- Do one of the following:
- Dial the extension or phone number to call and press the Send softkey.
- Use the Up or Down navigational buttons to hover over a recent caller and press the Send softkey.
- Press the Directories softkey, select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites), and press Dial softkey.
Perform a Semi-Attended Transfer
When you are performing an attended transfer, you may find that you actually do not need to speak to the person you are transferring to. You can do a semi-attended transfer instead by sending the caller “blindly” to the other party's mailbox or forwarding destination. This can be useful if you realize that person has become unavailable.
To perform a semi-attended transfer…
- Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
- Do one of the following:
- Dial the extension or phone number to call and press the Send softkey.
- Use the Up or Down navigational buttons to hover over a recent caller and press the Send softkey.
- Press the Directories softkey, select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites), and press Dial softkey.
- When you hear the ringback tone, press Transfer to finish the semi-attended transfer.
Perform a Consultative Transfer
If you would like to speak with the person you will be transferring a call to, you can use a consultative transfer.
To perform a consultative, or attended, transfer…
- Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
- Do one of the following:
- Dial the extension or phone number to call and press the Send softkey.
- Use the Up or Down navigational buttons to hover over a recent caller and press the Send softkey.
- Press the Directories softkey, select the specific directory (Contact Directory, Call Lists, Favorites), and press Dial softkey.
- After the contact answers the call, speak with them and then press Transfer to finish the consultative transfer.
Transfer to a User's Voicemailbox
During an active call, you can transfer a caller to another user's voicemailbox. This can be useful when you know that user is out of the office, or if the caller only wants to leave that user a voicemail.
To transfer a call to the voicemailbox of an internal user…
- Press the Transfer button or the Transfer softkey during a call.
- Select More → Blind Transfer.
- If needed, press More → Consultative to switch back to a consultative transfer.
- Dial the mailbox code for the other user and press Transfer.
- For Stratus users, dial 03 and the extension number of the user.
For example… If I wanted to transfer a caller to the mailbox of user 101, I would dial 03101.
- For Enswitch users, dial the feature code associated with the mailbox.
Quick Tip: Most accounts use 1+EXT (e.g., 1103 for dialing extension 103's mailbox) as the code for dialing into the mailboxes of other users.
Find Your Mailbox's Dialable Code
If you are not sure what your mailbox's feature code is, you can check this and the other feature codes you are set as the Owner for by logging into the ES web portal as a basic user.
To find your mailbox's feature code…
1. Log into the ES web portal.
2. Navigate to Features → Feature codes.
3. Take note of the Feature Code shown that is marked for your extension's Mailbox.Reference the Feature Codes for Your Users as an Admin
Admins of the ES web portal can check the Feature Codes shown for all of their users using the web portal.
To check the feature codes for the whole account…
1. Log into the ES web portal.
2. Navigate to Features → Feature codes.
3. View and take note of the feature codes for your users.
4. If needed, click the Export as .csv button to download this list of feature codes as a spreadsheet that you can keep record of and share with your team.If you do not have access to the ES web portal, feel free to contact our technical support team to learn more about the dialable codes you can use. You can also read this article to learn how you can create a code for dialing a mailbox.
- For Stratus users, dial 03 and the extension number of the user.
Select Your Default Transfer Type
By default, your phone will perform consultative transfers. If needed, you can configure your phone to perform a Blind Transfer by default.
Switching your default transfer type can be useful when you know that you prefer to transfer one way over another.
To view and set your Default Transfer Type…
- Press the Home button.
- In the Main Menu, navigate to 10 Settings → 1 Basic → 1 Preferences → 10 Default Transfer Type.
- Select either Consultative or Blind.
✔ Now any transfers initiated with the Transfer button and Transfer softkey will start out as the default transfer type you have selected.
When you press the More softkey, the other type of transfer will be shown as an option to switch to.This applies as well to transfers done using the Directories feature, Recent Calls section of the Dialer, and BLF/speed dial keys.
Conference Calling
Whenever you need to, you can host a conference call using the phone's conferencing features.
Initiate a Conference
You can start a conference call by either…
- Inviting participants.
- Merging multiple calls into a conference.
Invite Participants
Another easy way to start a conference call is by inviting one or more members to an active call.
To initiate a conference call in this way…
- Place a call to the first party.
- After the first party answers the call, press the Conference softkey.
- Initiate another call with another person.
- When the call is answered, press More → Conference to join the calls.
- If needed, press the Conference softkey to add more participants.
Merge Calls
When there are multiple calls, you can merge them into a single conference call.
While you have multiple calls active on your phone, press the Join softkey to merge them into a conference call.
Hold and Resume a Conference Call
If you need to pause a conference call, you can place every participant on hold. While the conference is on hold, other participants will not hear each other until the held conference call is resumed.
- To hold the conference call, press the Hold softkey or the Hold button.
- To resume the conference call, press the Resume softkey or press the Hold button again.
Mute and Unmute a Conference
Whenever you need to, you can mute your own microphone to prevent the other participants from hearing you. Muting yourself will still allow other participants to hear each other.
- To mute your microphone, press the Mute button.
- To unmute yourself, press the lit-up Mute button again.
Split a Conference
When you are done with a conference call, you can move the callers into their own lines to handle their calls separately.
To split a conference call into separate line, press the Split softkey. From there, you can resume each call and manage their calls from there.
Park a Call
As an alternative to placing a call on hold, you can park a call in a park to allow other users to retrieve the parked call.
To park an active call…
- Press the park key for a specific park.
- Dial *** to dynamically park a call in an available park.
Retrieve a Parked Call
To retrieve a parked call…
- Press a park key that is showing as occupied.
- Dial the extension number of the call park (701, 702, 703, etc.).
End a Call
At any time during a call, you can end the call with ease.
To end an active call, do one of the following:
- Press the End Call softkey.
- Place the handset on the hook/cradle.
- If you are speaking through the speaker, press the Speakerphone button.
- If you are using a headset, press the Headset button.
