Connect a Windows PC to Your Office's L2TP/IPsec VPN
Discover how you can add a VPN connection to your Windows PC to allow your computer to securely and remotely access your company's programs and resources.

If your business is using network equipment that is managed by SpectrumVoIP, you can have our technical support team implement a VPN to ensure users are able to remotely access your company's programs and information securely from their authorized PCs.
✔ This can be especially useful for employees that work remotely overseas and need to use any SpectrumVoIP provided softphones, such as StratusHUB and the Stratus mobile app.
Add a VPN Connection for Your PC
Before following this guide, it is recommended to contact your VPN provider to do the following:
- Confirm that a L2TP/IPsec VPN has been configured.
- Check that login credentials have been created for users to use to connect to the VPN on their PCs.
- Collect important information from the VPN provider that will be needed for the VPN connection to be created, such as the VPN's Server Address.
Note: If SpectrumVoIP is your VPN provider, contact our technical support team for assistance.
Once you have confirmed that the VPN is ready to be connected to PCs, do the following:
- Go to your PC's Settings.
Quick Tip: If you see VPN settings listed, select that option and skip to step 3.
- Navigate to Network & Internet → VPN.
- Click Add a VPN connection.
- In the Add a VPN connection menu, configure the following options:
- VPN Provider - Select Windows (built-in).
- Connection name - Give this VPN an identifiable name.
- Server name or address - Type or paste in the name/IP address given to you by your IT or our technical support team.
- VPN type - Select L2TP/IPsec with pre-shared key.
- Pre-shared key - Type or paste the password given to you by your IT or our technical support team.
- User name & Password (optional) - These options are typically not needed. Confirm with your IT team or an administrator if this information is needed.
- Click the Save button.
✔ You should now be able to click the new VPN connection and the Connect button to use the VPN.
